From Power to Protection: Our Journey
Our journey into screen protection began, as many of our projects do, by listening to you, our customers. We heard countless stories of people meticulously charging their pristine smartphones with our power banks, only to suffer the heartache of a scratched or shattered screen from a minor drop. It felt like a disconnect in our mission to provide complete tech wellness. We saw an opportunity to apply our core principles of quality, durability, and elegant design to a new challenge. We didn’t want to create just any protector; we wanted to develop a tempered glass screen protector that we would be proud to put our name on—one that offered uncompromising protection without sacrificing the user experience.
The Science Behind the Shield
The development process was a deep dive into material science and precision engineering. Creating the perfect tempered glass screen protector is far more complex than simply cutting a piece of glass to size. It begins with sourcing the highest-grade aluminosilicate glass, known for its exceptional strength and clarity. This glass then undergoes a specialized chemical strengthening process called ion exchange. In this process, the glass is submerged in a bath of molten potassium salt at high temperatures, forcing larger potassium ions to replace the smaller sodium ions on the surface. This creates a layer of compressive stress on the glass, making it significantly more resistant to scratches and impacts. We experimented with dozens of variations in temperature and duration to find the perfect formula for maximum durability while maintaining ultra-thinness and touch sensitivity.
Perfecting the Fit: A Focus on Android
One of the biggest hurdles was designing a screen protector for Android devices. Unlike the more standardized iPhone lineup, the Android market is a vast ecosystem of different shapes, sizes, and screen curvatures. From waterfall –displays to various punch-hole camera placements, a one-size-fits-all approach was out of the question. Our design team spent months meticulously measuring and 3D scanning dozens of popular Android models. We created countless prototypes, refining the cutouts for speakers, cameras, and sensors to be accurate to the sub-millimeter. Our goal was to ensure our screen protector for Android users provided edge-to-edge coverage and a seamless installation, making it feel like a natural part of the phone itself.
Putting Our Protectors to the Test
Before any product reaches you, it must survive our rigorous in-house testing facility, which our team lovingly calls ‘The Gauntlet’. Our glass screen protectors were subjected to a battery of tests designed to simulate real-world abuse. We conducted repeated drop tests from various heights onto different surfaces. We ran scratch-resistance tests using everything from house keys and coins to abrasive materials. We also tested for optical clarity, touch-screen responsiveness, and the durability of the oleophobic coating, which repels fingerprints and smudges. Only the designs that passed every single test with flying colors were approved for production, ensuring they meet the Clever Energy standard of quality.
